The Little Mermaid: Part 2
Vday 2007
**********
He didn't know how to phrase it. He was still latching onto his old reason that he needed to see her to settle some stuff. But as the day drew nearer, he was panicking inside but he never showed any emotion in front of his fellow neighbours.

He was thinking what to do, what to say, what was the next step.

They have been in contact on msn for quite a while now. Sometimes, they would go on in sms in the middle of the day. She was always slow to reply, and always said she was very busy.

Was she really busy, was she thinking how she should reply? He thought to himself. He shouldn't think too much he said. She should be very busy.

So it dragged to that fateful day....

Asking her out was the hardest thing to do. But when he did, she said she was going out for dinner with her girlfriends. He took a step back to give space and said nevermind. So he asked about the afternoon instead. She bought time by saying she can't confirm. And so he waited...

It was 2 more days to the D-day. And his msn popped up. She said she was going to school in the afternoon and that they could meet. His eyes saw a glimmer of hope, his heart was lifted. Still, time was his greatest enemy.

So they met that afternoon, among people & friends. Not the best of places, but he was happy to see her. Here, I got something for you he said. He didn't bring a bouquet of flowers, but flowers that he folded into a small bouquet. She was surprised and touched.

They chatted about stuff. He asked about dinner again. And she said the same thing. There were long pauses and interruptions, but the words just couldn't come out of his mouth. She looked at him, but he said he gotta go off for something else.

Before they parted, they wished each other Happy Valentine's Day.

As he lay in bed that night, he pondered what he should have said.

It could be just as simple as "Could you have with dinner with me instead?"
